James: What inspired this new take on GMT II?
Kamal: In fact it was Tom Ford. We designed this model for his stores world wide about 4 years ago. And it was to be named the Tom Ford Pro Hunter. At that time we were only producing steel Pro Hunters, but Tom Ford said, “I want gold”. On hindsight I wish I had paid more attention and bought some gold on the financial markets. Anyway, he loved the design, and it was approved and backed by his design and marketing team. But then his US lawyers got cold feet with Rolex customization. The project was shelved.

The Porsche P’6780 Diver is just the second diving watch in 25 years from the Porsche Design team – the successor to the Ocean Diver in 1983. The P’6780 also features a case design which allows the watch to be lifted to reset the time. The container can be lifted straight from the bridge, and the blocking of diving ring and removed his crown.
The new Chanel J12 Retrograde Mysterieuse Watch definitely caught our attention from first glance. This time piece was introduced at this year’s Baselworld 2010 in conjunction with the team at Audemars Piguet Renaud Papi.

It seems that renowned Swiss watchmaker Bell & Ross has contributed a significant design to the vehicle that will come in the form of a special-edition timepiece.
Its stainless steel 46mm square case houses a gorgeous dial that resembles a snowflake with its intricacy; Bell & Ross achieved this through what they call some of the most advanced machining processes currently available. Four Arabic hour marks are surrounded by metal ridges that are designed to catch light, and the nickel-plated hour and minute hands are industrial and bold but fit well with the overall theme. The timepiece’s grained leather strap is made from exactly the same leather as the Peugeot’s interior. Look for the SR1 and its stunning dashboard watch to debut in Geneva next month.
The MVT01/D01/42 model is the first watch released by 4N. Limited to just 16 pieces, the watch is characterized by a manufacturer movement, with a manual winding mechanism and a 12-hour digital display. The concept of the timepiece is based on a configuration of discs rotating in a discontinuous mode.
The watch features three discs (made of aluminum or titanium alloy) with different numbers engraved on them. The discs rotate to present the appropriate time in four digits. The mechanism uses a constant force jump system which guarantees minimum energy consumption, regardless of the winding tension. 4N offers the MVT01/D01/42 in 18K white gold and platinum versions; the dial is covered by a sapphire glass crystal, and the band will be offered in a range of materials.
The Classico U-1001 Collection features a water-resistance rating to withstand pressures at 1001 meters below the water’s surface. A definite sportsman’s watch, the U-1001 features automatic Swiss movement with U-Boat-engraved rotor, plus a grade 2 Titanium case with 55mm diameter, thick sapphire crystal, screw-down crown protecting cap, hinged to the case, and pressure escape valve at 8 o’clock. The collection also is highlighted by the U-Boat black, rubber strap, with titanium engraved plate and deployante buckle. A multi-layered black dial with recessed sandwich numeral and index markers comes in photo-luminescent blue, orange or beige. There are 1001 pieces worldwide – 333 of each color.
Limited Edition of 150 pieces. Titanium case (44mm x 35mm), Movement is Chopard’s manual wind L.U.C. 1TRM tourbillon (COSC-certified, 60 hour power reserve), power reserve indicator on dial, sapphire crystal front and back, Hand-sewn black alligator strap with matching titanium buckle. Price around $50,000.
