The Sartorialist: Lunch for 25
Street-style photographer Scott Schuman has gathered 25 of the world’s most stylish men together – and posted the results on his website, The Sartorialist.
The Lunch for 25 video debuted online last night, with Gianluca Cantaro of L-Uomo Vogue, Saks chief creative officer Terron Schaefer and hip hop superstar Kanye West among the guests.
“These guys have so much in common and yet, for most of them, their paths never cross,” Schuman wrote on his website.
“Just imagine, someone like Gianluca, with his dreadlocks and modern-minimalist aesthetic sitting next to Lino, with his old-school Italian charm …. Mr Kurino and Simone Righi discussing their first suit, Kanye and Terron talking about whatever it is those two super funny characters could dream up … I’m just guessing, but I bet these guys would really hit it off.

Beyoncé Stirs Whitewash Controversy
Beyoncé Knowles has been lambasted for looking Caucasian.
The singer has just released her newest promotional ad for her album 4.
Beyoncé’s bright blond hair and bleached eyebrows in the promo are simply too blanch for some critics.
“I think in a lot of ways [Beyoncé is] culpable because there’s history there,” founder of blog ThisIsYourConscience.com Lincoln Anthony Blades told the Daily News. “She’s not saying explicitly you have to lighten your skin, but it does carry that inherent message.”
Beyoncé has been criticized before for looking like a white girl. In a 2008 ad for cosmetics company L’Oréal, the singer’s skin appeared abnormally light.
Filmmaker D. Channsin Berry who helmed Dark Girls, a documentary exploring discrimination faced by dark-skinned black women, thinks the singer’s neutralized ethnicity is a requisite for successful marketing.
“[Beyoncé is] doing what she needs to do to be accepted worldwide and keep those sponsors happy,” D. contends.
Skin color in the black American community has been a contentious issue since early members of the African diaspora crunched their feet in the dirt of the state of Virginia in the 17th century.
Mixed race house Negroes got to serve the master in the comfort of his Deep South Confederate mansion while the plantation’s darkies were bloodying their hands picking cotton in the grueling heat outside.
An obsolete dialogue that still rages without addressing the issue.
Who are black Americans?
The descendants of African tribesman, Native American tribesman, European slave owners. Partially, in between and wholly all of these.
What is being whitewashed? Were the first members of the African diaspora not sanitized of their heritage when slave owners ripped tongues from the mouth at the sound of a native utterance?
America has been bleached since the Indians dwindled from small pox.
Now, with tanning beds at the peak of popularity, there is an opportunity to change the hue of pop culture.

Tom Ford Designed Rolex GMT Master
James: What inspired this new take on GMT II?
Kamal: In fact it was Tom Ford. We designed this model for his stores world wide about 4 years ago. And it was to be named the Tom Ford Pro Hunter. At that time we were only producing steel Pro Hunters, but Tom Ford said, “I want gold”. On hindsight I wish I had paid more attention and bought some gold on the financial markets. Anyway, he loved the design, and it was approved and backed by his design and marketing team. But then his US lawyers got cold feet with Rolex customization. The project was shelved.

Gap Shuts Down A Third Of US Stores

VIA: MSN Gap, ubiquitous in malls across America, will reduce the number of its U.S. stores to 700 by 2013, a 34 percent decline from 2007, the company announced Thursday.
Although it is shrinking its retail footprint in the U.S., the company announced it is expanding Gap and Banana Republic stores in China, Italy and South America. It is planning on tripling its Gap stores in greater China from roughly 15 at the end of this year to about 45 by the end of 2012, according to the press release.
Another one of its brands, Old Navy, will make its debut outside of the United States in 2014, with an outlet in Japan.
The company would not estimate the number of U.S. jobs that will be eliminated.
The move is designed to improve the company’s margins as the retailer — like others in the sector — struggle for profits in the economic downturn.
“The combination of our global strategy and formidable growth platform puts us in a strong position to expand our reach into the top 10 apparel markets worldwide,” Glenn Murphy, chairman and CEO of Gap Inc. said. “In North America, we’re taking a number of steps to improve sales in the near-term, and I’m confident that with a strong management team in place, we’re well positioned for sustained growth across the business.”
Declining cotton prices will also help profits, according to Sabrina Simmons, Gap’s chief financial officer.
According to Bloomberg News, the company said it plans to return operating margins to 2010 levels. Gap’s operating income was 12.8 percent of its sales in its fiscal 2010, according to Bloomberg data. The measure narrowed to 9.9 percent in the quarter ended in July.

Purse Blog: Lanvin Clutch
If I saw this clutch in someone’s hands and didn’t know any better, I’d assume it was the vintage find of a lifetime. The dusty teal lizard accented with tortoise shell gussets and weathered brass hardware looks like nothing else on the market right now, and the combination is beautiful in a subtle, restrained, well-edited way that’s genuinely hard to come by.
