Many people have no idea that the NFL has been investing in eco-friendly programs for years. And this year isn’t an exception. Super Bowl XLVI will present the highly lucrative rematch between the New England Patriots and New York Giants.

Super Bowl XLVI will be powered through 15 million kilowatt hours of reusable energy, which will be provided by Green Mountain Energy Company. Green Mountain will also play there part in cutting emissions of both teams by, installing a residential photovoltaic array and planting around 1,700 trees in urban parts of Indianapolis.

One of the more exciting features of the sneaker from a tech aspect is the interchangeability provided by the higher end System Supreme version. Drawing on the successes of the swappable insoles from the Air Jordan 2011, the sneaker sets up the ‘Attack Fast’ and ‘Attack Strong’ system catering to two different play styles. This is achieved through front to back Zoom unit coverage in the Fast version and a Cushlon midsole and extra ankle padding in the Strong version. Follow us after the jump for a more nuanced look at the differences between the two and let us know if you’ll be springing the extra cash for the upgrade. more pics

Check out NBA Superstar Kevin Durant and Nike Basketball designer Leo Chang discussing Kevin’s fourth signature shoe, the Nike Zoom KD IV.

Launching December 3, the Nike Zoom KD IV features the new Adaptive Fit system, Hyperfuse construction and a Zoom Air unit — a versatile combination for one of basketball’s most electric players.

The Nike Zoom KD IV was built to the exact specifications of Durant, who is closely involved in the design process with Nike Basketball Footwear Design Director Leo Chang. Chang has led the design for all four of Durant’s Nike signature shoes since 2008. Incorporated for the first time in a basketball shoe, the new Adaptive Fit system provides a lock-down fit with a synthetic strap that wraps up from the inside of the upper and integrates with the laces for superior fit and lateral support.

The Hyperfuse construction on the upper is a composite of three different layers of material that are fused together using a pressing process to create a nearly seamless, one-piece upper that is lightweight, breathable and durable. Furthermore, the Nike Zoom unit in the forefoot provides lightweight, low-profile and responsive cushioning. Lastly, a low collar design provides optimal support and flexibility through the ankle and makes this a versatile shoe for multiple positions on the court.

Where were you on this day, 20 years ago? Do you remember what you were doing? I, myself, can only recall being an innocent, early elementary school student who knew nothing about what had taken place or the impact it would soon have on my community and generation. 20 year later, the destruction has become a painful reality as AIDS is the third leading cause of death among black women aged 25 to 34 and black men aged 35 to 44 in America. World wide, the statics are extraordinarily more alarming. The silver lining is that there are a great number of preventive methods we can all take in an effort to combat this disease. The most important being  knowledge centered.

This is what a post Magic HIV society meant; a culture that embraced HIV dialogue openly and often. By no means am I asserting that Magic was the first iconic figure to be diagnosed with HIV at that time. However, in retrospect, his announcement did serve a greater purpose. Reaffirmation that this wasn’t a cultural issue, but in fact a humanitarian problem that affects us all.  HIV had officially forced it’s way from beyond the shadows of naivety.

Magic could’ve chosen not to disclose his situtation. But he didn’t and for that, I will always hold him in the highest regard. He has turned tragedy into blessing through his philanthropic work and activism in the name of HIV awareness, prevention and research. It’s clear that Magic is doing his part 20 years later. The question is, are you?

-Jermon

Move over Jay! Another Hip Hop pioneer has joined the ranks of NBA ownership in his home City. Will Smith has not only acquired a minority stake in the Philadelphia 76ers but he did so along with his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. But wait…there’s more! Just hours after making it official, Will announced they will be slashing individual game ticket prices effective immediately!

 Talk about a POWER couple!

According to CSN Philly [Link], the couple acquired part of the team as it was being sold from Comcast-Spectacor to a group of investors led by multibillionaire Joshua Harris. Harris held a press conference at the Palestra on Tuesday morning to announce the plans of the team’s new ownership. “It is an honor to become part of this storied franchise. We have a lot of work to do, but we have a rich history, a strong foundation and a bright future,” says Harris.

The NBA, sadly, is still in the midst of a lockout, and the first two weeks of the 2011-12 season have been canceled.

Smith is a Philly native that attended Overbrook High School in West Philadelphia. Jay-Z became part owner of the New Jersey Nets — soon to be the Brooklyn Nets — in 2004; last month, he announced that he would open the team’s first season in Brooklyn with a series of concerts next year.
