Forget Google Glass; the tech giant is in the footwear business now. Or at least it was at the SXSW series of film, interactive, and music festivals in Austin on Monday. Together with Adidas, the technology giant unveiled its concept “Talking Shoe,” a smart sneaker designed to get people off the couch and exercising. But Google didn’t just see fit to give the shoe the usual moving parts (an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a pressure sensor, Bluetooth connectivity). Get a closer look at the upcoming release of the Nike Air Max 1 FB Pack, dropping in two eye-catching colorways. After recent releases the likes of the “Home Turf” London and an Engineered Mesh Pack that showcase Nike’s technical prowess, the AM1 FB Pack returns with two strong colorways across their mesh, leather, and rubber builds, including a Black/Pink Flash/Mint and a Metallic Silver/Current Blue, both rocking the pop long their full-length mudguard. Built with the brand’s new signature uniform construction, this hybrid runner uses Hyper Blue across its upper above its white base, which is protected by a Total Crimson mudguard. Nike has unleashed “Game On, World” as a way of using fitness data as a springboard for Nike+ wearers to work harder. Throughout the spot, we see pro-athletes leap through the air into drainpipes à la Mario and Luigi of the classic Super Marios Brothers Game and barrel through levels like Sonic the Hedgehog. Speed is of the essence as the series of challenges aim to inspire all Nike+ wearers to exceed their personal bests.
The Nike+ fitness tracking system has been around for years, but integrating the technology with shoes has only been introduced in the last year. For basketball there’s the Nike Hyperdunk+, and for men/ women’s training Lunar Hyper workout+ and Lunar TR 1+. All feature the new Nike+ Pressure Sensor that tracks its wearer’s movement with their movement data wirelessly transferred to apps (available on iOS 4S phones only).
