The way to make information relevant is not to ask people to think about or worry about something new—especially not something that’s far away in time or space. The stories have to be close to us, emotionally or physically. Or, we have to displace what’s already in someone’s pool or worry.

Scientist and Researchers have been stressing for years that global warming is causing the coral reef to die off. It has been shown to us in numerous forms that the coral reef is indeed taking damage, but new research is showing that this isn’t the first time coral reefs have suffered through harsh temperatures and bounced back. So the future just may be bright again for all corals out there.

The Yale Environment 360 reports: ”An increase in ocean temperatures that occurred 4,000 years ago triggered a collapse of coral reef systems in the eastern Pacific that lasted for about 2,500 years, according to a new study. In an analysis of 17-foot core samples taken from the frameworks of coral reefs off the Panama coast, scientists from the Florida Institute of Technology found that the reefs stopped growing during a period that coincided with the start of a period of dramatic swings in the El Nino-Southern Oscillation, including periods when ocean temperatures elevated significantly. They say this gap in growth also occurred in reef systems as far away as Japan and Australia.”

Nike has unleashed “Game On, World” as a way of using fitness data as a springboard for Nike+ wearers to work harder. Throughout the spot, we see pro-athletes leap through the air into drainpipes à la Mario and Luigi of the classic Super Marios Brothers Game and barrel through levels like Sonic the Hedgehog. Speed is of the essence as the series of challenges aim to inspire all Nike+ wearers to exceed their personal bests.

The Nike+ fitness tracking system has been around for years, but integrating the technology with shoes has only been introduced in the last year. For basketball there’s the Nike Hyperdunk+, and for men/ women’s training Lunar Hyper workout+ and Lunar TR 1+. All feature the new Nike+ Pressure Sensor that tracks its wearer’s movement with their movement data wirelessly transferred to apps (available on iOS 4S phones only).

Like any person, even if they have the least bit of common sense wouldn’t feel particularly safe riding a bike without an official bike-lane. Well the city is about to fix this and it is actually a part of their 2030 blueprint for a greener city, which they intend to build 125miles worth of bike-lanes.

According to the Guardian

have been successful in persuading previous non-cyclists to get out on their bikes. Research done by the council has shown that the likelihood of a resident commuting by bike increases exponentially with the proportion of their commuting trip made possible on a separated bike lane.

Scientist in the U.S. have came up with a revolutionary development that will allow paint to store and deliver electrical power just like a battery can. Some researchers at Rice University made this possible, by coming up with a technique to break down each element of a regular battery and be able to incorporate it into a liquid that can be sprayed on any service.
